Inoue Kokuyu Black Mino-yaki Yunomi - Japanese Teacup

Mino Province in Gifu Prefecture has been the heart of Japan's pottery tradition since the 7th century. The kilns around Tajimi, Toki, Mizunami, and Kawagoei continue this legacy today, crafting vessels from the region's distinctive clay. What makes Minoyaki pottery special is its commitment to revealing natural beauty—each piece showcases the raw, unrefined character of the earth from which it's formed.

Japanese tea ceremony philosophy emphasizes harmony between form and function. This yunomi embodies that principle: coarse, natural clay shaped into a vessel that feels honest in your hands. The dark Kokuyu finish celebrates imperfection and authenticity, hallmarks of wabi-sabi aesthetics that define the best teacup experiences.

The modest dimensions make this teacup ideal for mindful tea drinking. At 250ml capacity, it's large enough for a satisfying serving yet small enough to hold warmth in both palms. The slightly tapered walls are gentle on your hands and guide the tea to your lips with intention—no rushing, no distraction.

Inoue Tea partners with master potters who understand that a great teacup isn't just a vessel; it's a meditation tool. The unglazed interior absorbs subtle notes from your tea while the exterior's matte black surface resists fingerprints and wear. Over time, this yunomi develops character, its surface telling the story of countless brewing sessions.

This is the teacup that transforms an ordinary tea break into a moment of mindfulness.

Will the unglazed clay affect the taste of my tea?

No. The natural clay actually complements tea by maintaining optimal temperature and allowing subtle aromas to develop. Some tea enthusiasts prefer unglazed ceramic vessels specifically because they create a more authentic tea experience than glazed alternatives.

Is the Inoue Kokuyu Black Mino-yaki Yunomi durable for long-term use?

Yes. Minoyaki pottery is renowned for durability. Handwashing and gentle handling will preserve this teacup for years—and like fine wine vessels, it improves with age as the clay develops a patina from regular use.
